Context:
This began as a research project into Kingston Upon Thames' rich history of rock music. Through the course of the research, I found out that Arcane Roots, one of my favourite alt-rock bands, originated from Kingston.
Challenge:
To map out Arcane Roots' music and history through illustrative graphic scores.
Approach:
I visited local record stores to get a better understanding of how vinyls are displayed. Browsing through vinyl records at a small, back-alley store encapsulated the experience of discovering unknown artists. I used the format of a vinyl storage box, complete with records of Arcane Roots’ albums, to give my audience this experience. They could browse through the box, picking out scores they liked and read the story behind it.
Work in Progress
There weren't many visual references for Graphic Scores for Rock Bands. However, I looked towards classical sheet music and its visualisations for inspiration.

Each album contains graphic scores of the songs in it, accompanied by a little blurb about the band and the context surrounding the song.
Graphic Scores

The entire narrative is spread across 6 albums and 38 graphic scores. I am currently in talks with rock music venues in Kingston to display the project.
